Biloxi City Councilwoman Dixie Newman was elected to office in July of 2013, at the age of twenty seven. She is currently the youngest and only female sitting on the city's board. Dixie is the daughter of Tommy and Fredda Newman of Biloxi. she graduated from Biloxi High School in 2004. After Katrina, at age 19, Dixie lived in New York City for three years where she learned much of the business world in the fastest real estate market in the country. She then moved back home to Biloxi, where she started a career with the District Attorney's office in the Worthless Checks Division. Meanwhile, she continued her education in Business, which she graduated and received her Business Administration degree from the University of Southern Mississippi on The Mississippi Gulf Coast. Other than being a City Council Official, Dixie is a Realtor on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with Clauson Realty and has also partnered with her mother about a year ago, opening an antique, vintage, and artisan consignment shop called Howard Avenue Emporium in Biloxi. Dixie was chosen as one of  Mississippi Business Journal's top 50 women in Business in 2016.

Dixie ran for office because she was confident that she could provide a fresh and diverse perspective in providing constituents with an even more beautiful and financially stable Biloxi. Dixie prides herself on being an accountable and approachable public servant; not a politician. Dixie is all for services of the people and she knows that each constituent wants to be heard. Striving to be a strong role model for other women and young children, is the most important part of the job. Since being elected she has formed several committees to help her with all of her promised efforts, including the "Friends of Hiller Park" committee which thrives on fundraising to revitalize Hiller Park while providing family fun entertainment. This committee is now considered a non-profit organization under The Gulf Coast Foundation. Because of Dixie, her Friends Of Hiller Park committee, and other incredible partnerships along the way, they were successful in their efforts to purchase two new playgrounds, a swing set, a wheel chair swing, and a new splash pad.

Her second top priority that she wanted to achieve after being elected to office was a sidewalk on Atkinson Road, which is now in effect after years of the city telling the constituents that a sidewalk on the narrow road was impossible.

Staying in touch with her constituents is her number one priority, therefore, Dixie developed a website to help keep her constituents informed at all times, www.councilwomandixienewmanward3.com

Dixie is humbled and honored tot be unopposed this upcoming election and looks forward to great improvements in Biloxi the next four years. The best is yet to come!
